Just opened a couple of new bottles off the brand new SMWS list ....
Cask 23.53
19yo Bruichladdich
Distilled Dec 1986
Bottled Dec 2005
ABV 55.9%
Colour - A bright gold .
Nose - At first Lemon puff biscuits , lots of green fruits (gooseberries , apples ) , Very similar to the 20yo O.B.
Taste - A nice sweetness to it with a slight smokiness , a slight taste of fudge . Remarkably balanced for a single cask bottling .
Finish - Lovely warming feeling with icing sugar /marzipan ( top of Christmas cake) .
Comments - Wow ! a stunning Laddie , 243 bottles , going off the bottling number / taste i take it it's from a bourbon Hoggy . if this was a valinch i would buy two ! Might still go back for another yet !!!!
Tried it next to the 20yo O.B. First edition (which is a very good bottling IMHO ) and it stood shoulder to shoulder with it .
Amazin' !
Cask 33.61
7yo Ardbeg
Distilled May 1998
Bottled Jan 2006
ABV 57.2%
Colour - Bright gold.
Nose - Bags (Growbags ? LOL!) of peat , takes a little while to open up , then the other Ardbeg tastes come through (cocoa , smoke etc) , including a slight floral smell which i take is from the Ol' purifier (similar to the Kildalton ).
Taste - Sweet peat , smoke .
Finish - Looooong and warming , a lovely peatiness and a touch iodine .
Comments - Another very good Ardbeg junior , this one is closer to the Signatory 1991 /8yo bottlings than the "Very young" . Good 'un !
Tonight is a good night to drink !( Old Klingon Proverb)
Slainté
