Not bad but it doesn't seem to do Islay very well
Actually I'm aleady making some inquiries now for hotels/b&b's for my trip to Scotland in June |
W00t!!
I just got reservations at the Lochside Hotel in Bowmore, Islay (just across the street from the Bowmore distillery!) for a week stay.
I've never stayed there before but I've had dinner there once which was quite nice and a it has good pub!

Have only stayed at the Lochside once since the new owners took over and the food wasn't anything special , your average pub fayre . We used to stay there all the time when Alistair and Ann had it , the food was superb and the Malt selection was stunning (250+ Islays and the other stuff) , spent many a long night dramming and chatting ......
Now we tend to go Self catering for long stays and the Port Charlotte Hotel for short stays .
Only another 2 months till our next visit .......
When are you over Wave (or have i asked you before)?

I'll be on Islay the 20th of June till the 26th. The last couple of times there I've stayed at the Port Askaig Hotel which is a nice place and quite scenic, but there is nothing around it and the hike up that hill (from Port Askaig) is murder!! At least in Bowmore if I don't care for the food/drink at The Lochside or want something else I'll have other close-by options to choose from.

Aye it's a canny climb up from Port Askaig even in the car !
There's always the Indian over the road from the Lochside and on a thursday i can thoroughly recommend the Nippy Chippy that parks next to the square , some of the best fish and chips available in Scotland !

Thanks for the link Talisker, I'd love to get back to Scotland this year!! - Don't know if it's gonna happen or not yet though |
March 16th for me, going to do the grouse experience for the 1st time (cos its free), probably tullibardine again, oban and try to take in dalwhinnie |
Oban is is a nice one to visit, love the town too! Dalwhinnie (went there by train from Perth) has a very picturesque setting. As being
seemingly off the beaten track as to it's remoteness and in the middle of the mountains I got just as 3 buses pulled in!
It was still a good distillery tour and worth the trip!
Countryside around Dalwhinie...
Dalwhinnie Distillery.....
Cheers!! |
This is another view, taken a couple of years back on the road from Fort William, the picture does not do the view justice as it was a dark stormy day with the pure white distillery in the sunshine (and it was freezing)
