A beutiful looking distillery that like Glenturret leans towards the blend message, here it's Bells and Glenturret it's Famous Grouse. Some even call it the Bells Blair Athol Distillery!! http://www.information-britain.co.uk/showPlace.cfm?Place_ID=1908

Opening Times
January to Easter: Mon - Fri: Tours at 11am, 1pm & 3pm
Easter to September: Mon - Sat: 9.30am - 5pm
June to September: Also Sunday 12noon - 5pm
October: Mon - Fri: 10am - 4pm
November & December: Mon - Fri: Tours at 11am, 1pm & 3pm
Closed: 25th - 26th December 2004 & 1st - 2nd January 2005
Last Tour: 1 hour before closing
Adult admission charge includes a discount voucher, redeemable in our well stocked distillery shop towards the purchase of a 70cl bottle of malt whisky. Children under 8 years are welcome but are not admitted to the production areas. Free car parking available. Large groups and coach parties by appointment only.
Location
Pitlochry is situated next to the A9 about 25 miles north of Perth. Blair Athol Distillery and Visitor Centre is located on the Southern Edge of Pitlochry about half a mile from the town centre.

yes richard it is a nice distillery, it has changed a lot over the years, it is at the end of a very nice waly through the town, (is robertsons stll their).on my first visit you had a taste of the malt, in later years it became a taste of bell, the atmosophere is good though, blackend trees and warehouses, trout in the stream as you cross the bridghe and knowlegable staff, again this is on my visit list in october, lots of good distilleries in that region, if you could cope you could do 4 in a day, blair athol, edradour, glenturret and aberfeldy, you would really have to rush though, better to do just 2 and enjoy.

I've tried to get that trip organised so many times for a one day rush around with friends but as i've done Glenturret so many times could lessen it to the 3. I wonder when i'll get to see a distillery again, hopefully in a years time, other than Glenturret when visiting the in-laws.

Very good guide again and lots of nice bottles in the shop as its nice owned by Signatory. Finsied with a drink at a real ale pub the Moulin and a trip around Bannockburn today on the way back. Kidneys still intact but we have raided many of the shops for some great whisky bargains and true whisky treats. :D |
I'm being lazy so I've brought my Blair Athol distillery notes over :D

i have been on this tour but a number of years ago and at that time we had the malt to taste, i have ben again many times but will not pay for a tour when they are going to give a blend to taste, i think that this does nothing for the distillery although i cant fault the staff and the place its self.
the decision to give bells as a taster must be a brand image thing, i am not a big lover of blends as i have said in this forum before but i do like some, bells is one (so is black bottle) as it is quite smokey but i can try that in the pub, i can never hope to try blair athol in the pub unless that have a vast range of malts and not many do  |
