The Aberlour tour is by far the best distillery tour I've been to out of 16 distilleries. The price of the tour itself is a bit on the steep side (£7.50) but it's well worth it. The connoisseurs tour as it is aptly named takes you through the entire process of whisky making step-by-step, tasting as you go along, ever taste wort? (kinda like a flat beer). At the end of the tour it's nosing and tasting time so in warehouse #1 your seated with not 1 dram but 6! drams ranging from raw spirit, 12 yr old bourbon casked strength, 12 yr old sherry casked strength, 10 yr old OB, 15 yr old OB (second tour this was replaced with the 16yr old OB), and finally the a'bunadh. Finally at the end of the tour and tasting you have the chance to hand fill your own bottle of Aberlour from either the 12 yr old bourbon cask or sherry cask (£50), 1st visit I got the sherry casked (58.4% alc/vol), 2nd visit the bourbon casked (59.1% alc/vol). Cool

They advised at the time you book the tour that someone else drives you there or take a bus or taxi. It's really just a very short walk to the distillery from where the bus stops (1/4 mile). If you have some spare time before your distillery tour you can go to the other end of Aberlour (less than a 1km walk) and satisfy your sweet tooth at the Walkers Shortbread factory (yum-yum!), they have tours too!
