New Website Launched to Expand Consumer Awareness about Importance of Wine Origins
Tuesday October 11, 11:47 am ET
Site a "go-to" source for consumers interested in wines and leading winegrowing regions such as Champagne and Port
WASHINGTON, Oct. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, the newly-created Center for Wine Origins announced the launch of http://www.wineorigins.com, a website created to educate Americans about leading winegrowing regions and how to learn more about where their wine comes from.
The site seeks to engage consumers on the issue of location and provides helpful hints on choosing, serving, and pairing popular wines, such as Champagne and Port -- two regions who are the Center's founding members.
"Our goal in developing the site was to make it a useful tool for consumers seeking to make informed wine decisions," said Shannon Hunt, Director of the Center for Wine Origins. "To that end, the site includes several interactive features and will be consistently updated with fresh information on Champagne, Port, and wine origins generally."
Some of the site's features include:
-- Ask the Wine Guru. Consumers can post wine-related questions, which
will be answered promptly by the Center's staff of wine experts.
-- Wine of the Month. Each month, a different variety of wine will be
featured along with tips for how and when to enjoy these wines. For
example, this month, there's a feature on blanc de blancs Champagne.
-- News Ticker. Located on the home page, the ticker provides up-to-the-
minute wine industry news as well as information on the Center's
activities.
-- Wine Cellar. Consumers can find all sorts of helpful hints on how to
enjoy wines from the world's leading wine regions. For example, there
are currently features about things like how and when to decant Port.
-- Food Pairing Chart. One of the greatest challenges with wines like
Champagne and Port is understanding which foods best complement the
many different varieties of those wines. The website provides
consumers user-friendly information from wine experts on how to
maneuver the food pairing challenges.
-- Events Calendar. For consumers interested in learning more, the Center
is hosting educational events across the country. All you need to know
about upcoming wine events, seminars and classes sponsored by the
Center can be found on the site.
The Center for Wine Origins seeks to educate Americans about the importance of location and gain greater protection for important winemaking locations in the U.S. market. To that end, the Center has launched a three- year "location matters" campaign, which will include a host of high-profile consumer education initiatives, a national advertising campaign, and a series of retail and consumer tasting events across the country.
The three year campaign is financed by the European Union, the Comite Interprofessionnel du Vin de Champagne (CIVC), the Instituto dos Vinos do Douro e Porto (IVDP). Fedejerez, representing the producers of Sherry in Spain, joins the campaign at the beginning of 2006.
