SUPERMARKET beer wars have seen the price of lager drop to a ten-year low, according to new figures yesterday.
Discounting means that the price of lager is 6p a litre less than it was in 1995.
Forecasts by retail experts show that the average pence-per-litre price of standard lager in supermarkets is down from £1.24 to £1.18.
The price of premium lagers has dropped even further, with the cost per litre down 24p from £2.01 to £1.77.
Stuart MacFarlane, the head of take-home beer sales for brewing giant InBev, said: "If beer prices had risen in line with inflation over the past decade consumers would be expecting to pay around £2.19 a litre for premium lager."
