Bruicladdich 1986 53.4%

This reall is a big big malt :D

Nose: is spring meadow and ozone, (it clears the sinus) no smoke at all

Palate:
Honey and salt, the taste of the sea, it sticks to the mouth

Finnish:
Very very long and complex but creamy, not what i was expecting, goes on for ever.

I think this was wasted on new years eve Crying or Very sad and could have done better at a tasting session as i think i was the only one to get anything out of it.

Never mind whats done is done and I enjoyed it
:D

8.5/10

Sounds like an excellent 'Laddie!

I'm also interested in the bottling, I had an '86 Cadenhead about a year ago that was absolutely wonderful!

sory for the delay in getting back, i had to rescue the bottle, it was 53.3 and not 53.4 as i said earlier (these old eyes).
it says on the label cask 700 if that means anything to anyone.
the bottles was left to me 3 years ago an the understanding that it was drunk and not kept, pity really but their you go

Hi Talisker25 ,
Aah it's a valinch ! 3rd of the Valinches , From a Oloroso cask(No.700),one of 1200 .
from the Laddie website....

First Editions
This Valinch celebrated the launch of the New Bruichladdich 'First Edition' bottlings, offered for sale to visitors to the distillery in August 2001 until January 2002. It was distilled in 1986 and filled into an Oloroso Sherry Butt and was 53.5% alcohol. There were 1200 Valinches.

I've got the Valinches listed on my website go to "Other distilleries"--->Bruichladdich----->next page .

It's also listed at the Bruichladdich website, but not in such detail.

http://www.bruichladdich.com/valinch_news.htm

I don't think that list is really complete since it doesn't mention 1 of my Valinch's, The Lord Robertson of Port Ellen (also have a Flora McBabe) which were available for the '04 Feis Ila Bruichladdich's open house (Gee, isn't that the same time that Gordon poured his?? :D ). I got to try both before filling my bottles and they are exceptional malts! I'll be bringing back at least a couple Valinch's when I return to Islay this summer. :D :D Cool

Never tried this one but sounds like an excellent Bruichladdich. I always find this have a wonderful creamy tate in the finish as well which also make it a great desert malt for me as well.

Have we met Wave ?

I've got two valinches sitting at the distillery waiting to be picked up now (probably more by the time we hit Islay at Easter ) , Mary normally puts one aside for me off every cask . Then we'll be back over for the festival at the end of May (Jims Masterclass is booked already !) and we'll be hitting the shores again during the summer (end of july / start of august ) . When are you over in the summer ?
Can't get enough of the place !!! Smile
