Crying or Very sad
As of closing time last night the Triton Inn, Sledmere has ceased trading.

The tenants Ian & Lynn are taking break to bring up their young family and had made plans to sell the tenancy to another local licensee who would have maintained the good real ale and cider and run the pub in much the same way as Ian & Lynn. Unfortunately, the Sledmere Estate has cut them off at their knees by increasing the annual rent payable by the new license holder fourfold and therefore scuppering the deal.

Ian kept the pub open over the festive period but ceased trading yesterday. On behalf of Hull & East Yorkshire CAMRA I will be making enquiries from the Sledmere Estate manager as to their plans for the pub. Updates will be posted.

Not quite big business more a lack of understanding from the so-called gentry, family home of Sykes family, Sir Tatton Sykes, 8th Baronet latest incumbent.

Have done a bit of research and Sledmere Estate used to own a couple of other pubs on their land but sold them off. Only Triton remains.
